On Friday, 29 Sep, the freshly repainted pieces of Calder's Eagle were staged, one by one, on the west side of the Elliott Ave bridge.
The next day, using three cranes and two crew-lifts, the main sections of the sculpture were lifted, aligned, and held in place while the installation crew bolted them together.
By Sunday, the final pieces were being lowered into place, and Eagle, as seen
looking back at the city from the shoreline, was nearing completion.
The process was a carefully choreographed methodical effort by conservators, seen tracking hundreds of cataloged bolts, crane operators, and lift crews who had to blindly match up nuts and bolts while staying clear of the sculpture's surfaces.
