Just after 6:00 am Saturday morning, the first of four sections of Tony Smith's "Stinger" floated into its new home at the southern tip of the Aspen grove.
By 8:20 sections two were assembled and section three was on its way. As each section was aligned, coverings were removed, and a member of the installation team entered through a portal to bolt the sections together, exiting at the opposite end.
SAM object conservator Liz Brown carefully trimmed special caulking applied to prevent moisture from entering the interior.
When the final section was attached the crew exited through a small hatch, and support brackets were welded to stainless steel-capped slabs. Base materials will come up to the bottom edges so no light will show through.
