On Sunday, June 25th, the nurse log for Mark Dion's Seattle Vivarium arrived at the SE corner of Broad and Elliott, enclosed in shade cloth draped over a wood frame.

The Ness Cranes team assembled and tested special rigging, then removed it to lift the cloth and reveal the log. The rigging was reattached and the log was gently lifted, swung around 180 degrees, and carefully placed on the mounded soil in the Vivarium base.

With a film crew capturing everything, Mark and the architectural team checked the blueprints and confirmed the log was too long. The Sellen crew was ready and went to work removing about two feet of wood from the end.

When they were done, the tree was gently repositioned into it's final resting place, and Mark placed the end pieces in the dirt to preserve as much bio-mass as possible. - June 30, 2006 -
