The OSP will be the home of many marvelous pieces of artistic work, including the recently announced acquisition, the massive "Stinger" by Tony Smith. And Mark Dion's "Vivarium" will include a living 60-foot nurse log which will reflect the passage of time in the ecology of the Puget Sound.

But there are presently weathered metal-works which have seen hundreds of storms, thousands of sunsets, and the passing touch of millions of people, defining this space.

Dozens of beautifully tarnished minature brass ship's wheels and propellors grace both sides of the cement fence running along the Myrtle Edwards parking lot. Where will they go? Could they have a place in the new landscape?

Passed by thousands of cars each day, an old iron fence runs along the west side of Elliott. Look closely, and hundreds of elegantly distressed metal posts, some held together with rusted bailing wire; once all uniform, now each remarkably unique. Might a local sculptor be commissioned to reuse them?

And the ubiquitous and invasive blackberry, and other wild flowers and vines. They too will have to go.

One neighbor's unoffical journal of construction progress made at the Olympic Sculpture Park. As seen over, and through, the fences.
